NMU ministry update

Northern Michigan University - Spring 2012
Friday, June 1st, 2012

Over the past year, Cru at NMU has been vibrant and growing. Our weekly meetings, which consist of worship music, talks, skits, stories of faith and prayer, have been phenomenal. The attendance of these meetings have been increasing as new students join and current students bring their friends. This meeting, which we call "Cru", is geared towards newcomers as a place of community and fellowship.

We have also had a number of Bible Studies, or "Cell Groups", established all over campus, meeting in different resident halls. Bible study leaders planned unique studies with some focusing on a specific topic or book of the Bible to focus on throughout the year. These studies give students a better opportunity to growth personally in their faith alongside others in a small group setting. A new study that was established this year and will continue on next year is in an International Student study. NMU Cru students planned a Thanksgiving Dinner for International students last fall and started to develop friendships with students from China, South Korea, Spain, Germany and many other countries. We are hoping to continue to build these friendships and will be able to share the Good News with our international friends.

Students from NMU are also actively taking steps on being sent out into the mission field. This past spring break, 8 NMU students joined over a 1,000 other college students in Panama City Beach, Florida for a conference called Big Break. NMU students had a fantastic time away from the cold and the snow in the Upper Peninsula and enjoyed their time spent learning and practicing to share their faith. A number of NMU students are also attending a Summer Project.

Next year, we are looking forward to incorporating incoming freshman into Cru, developing an outreach team to initiate spiritual conversations on campus and creating service events to impact our campus and city communities.
